* 「お砂持ち神事」像 / * Religious Services of carrying 'SAND'

The site of 'Izumoya's Store' where Basho stayed
 (Explanation)
 The origin of Religious Services of carrying 'SAND' into the west approach to Kehi Shrine:
 The second superintendent priest of Jishu Sect went round the whole country for his mission work.. When he stayed at Tsuruga in 1,301, he saw visitors go through hardships to Kehi Shrine because the west approach was muddy by marsh. He intended to make the firm road and began to take the lead in carrying sand from beach to the approach road himself. Then Shinto priests, Buddhist ones and lots of believers improved the road with him. The event of this Religious Services is held at present when the superintendent priest of Yugyouji Temple in Fujiwara City takes his place.
